About
Henry Lewis is a British actor, playwright, and co-founder of the comedy theatre company Mischief. Born on 21 November 1988, he has worked extensively across stage and television, with Broadway credits spanning 2017 to 2023.
Lewis established Mischief Theatre in 2008 alongside Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields while the three were enrolled in a drama foundation course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. The company became the creative engine behind a series of collaborative works written by Lewis, Sayer, and Shields. Their first major production, The Play That Goes Wrong, was co-written by the trio and premiered in 2012 at The Old Red Lion in Islington. Lewis originated the role of Robert Grove in that production, a role he carried through to the original Broadway cast. Peter Pan Goes Wrong followed in 2013, premiering at The Pleasance Theatre with Lewis in the cast playing Robert.
The Comedy About a Bank Robbery opened at the Criterion Theatre in 2016, with Lewis among the original cast in the role of Robin Freeboys. That same year, a BBC1 broadcast of Peter Pan Goes Wrong aired, again featuring Lewis as Robert. A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong followed on BBC1, with Lewis reprising the role of Robert. Between December 2019 and November 2021, BBC1 aired twelve episodes of The Goes Wrong Show.
In August 2019, Magic Goes Wrong premiered at the Quays Theatre. The play was written by Lewis, Sayer, Shields, Penn, and Teller, with Lewis playing the character Mind Mangler, a role he subsequently took on tour. The following month, Groan Ups opened at the Vaudeville Theatre as part of a projected year-long residency, with Lewis playing Spencer, though the run was later curtailed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
In 2020, Lewis launched The Mystery Agency, an escape-room style puzzle game, through Kickstarter. In 2022, he began appearing as the Riddlemaster on Riddiculous, an ITV daytime game show hosted by Ranvir Singh. In 2024, Lewis received a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, which he gave to Max Fosh. In 2025, he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing DUM-E in VisionQuest.
