Zach Appelman is an American actor born on August 5, 1985, in Palo Alto, California, who works across film, television, and theatre. He grew up in Palo Alto and was active in athletics during high school, competing in track and field, wrestling, and martial arts, and earning a black belt in karate. He pursued formal acting training at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he received a BFA in acting, and subsequently completed an MFA in acting at the Yale School of Drama.

Upon graduating, Appelman's first professional role was Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet. He went on to build a regional theatre résumé that included productions of Hamlet, Timon of Athens, King Lear, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. His New York stage work included Theatre for a New Audience's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, in which he played Demetrius. In 2011, Appelman made his Broadway debut in War Horse, playing Sgt. Fine. He also appeared in Sheri Wilner's The Miracle of Chanukah and Patrick Gabridge's Christmas Breaks, both produced for the public radio show and podcast format.

Appelman's screen career began to expand in 2013 when he appeared in the film Kill Your Darlings as Luke Detweiler. The following year, he took on the lead role of Demetrius in the 2014 film A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 2016, he appeared in the film Complete Unknown, and in 2017 he portrayed Assistant US Attorney Matt Miller on the television series Chicago P.D.

On television, Appelman guest starred as Officer Jimmy Hamilton in two episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit during its fifteenth season. He then appeared as Joe Corbin in the second season of Sleepy Hollow, and on August 21, 2015, it was announced that he had been elevated to series regular on that show. He also held a recurring role as Alton Finn in the third season of Beauty & the Beast.
