About
Henry Wynne Pearce Jr. was born on November 7, 1928, in Orange, Texas, the son of a physician. He served in the United States Army before receiving his discharge in 1954, after which he began pursuing a career in performance.
Pearce made his Broadway debut in 1955, stepping in to cover for Andy Griffith in the role of Captain Charles in the comedy No Time for Sergeants. He returned to Broadway in 1958, appearing in the comedy Maybe Tuesday, in which he played the role of Arthur.
His career extended into film and television, where he became recognizable to audiences through a range of roles. He joined the cast of the western television series Outlaws for its first season, taking on the role of Deputy Marshal Steve Corbie following Jock Gaynor's departure from the series after nine episodes. Gaynor had previously played the role of Deputy Marshal Heck Martin. Pearce also guest-starred in numerous television programs, including Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Steve Canyon, 12 O'Clock High, Perry Mason, Maverick, Tales of Wells Fargo, Sugarfoot, The Phil Silvers Show, and 77 Sunset Strip. In 1968, he played the lead role of Sir Charles Dilke in Michael Dynes's presentation.
Pearce earned a master's degree from the University of Southern California. He subsequently joined the faculty of the University of Arizona, where he taught theatre disciplines including performing and directing. He later held a position at the United States International University in San Diego, California, before joining the faculty of Saddleback College, a public community college, where he served as an academic professor from 1974 until his death. Pearce never married and had no children.
He died on December 11, 1990, in San Clemente, California, at the age of 62, following complications from a brief illness. His remains were cremated.
