William Burress was an American actor born on August 19, 1867, in New Cornerstown, Ohio. He died on October 30, 1948. His career spanned both stage and screen, with significant work in Broadway productions and a prolific output in early Hollywood cinema.

Burress maintained an active presence on Broadway across two decades, appearing in fifteen productions between 1900 and 1920. His stage credits included the musicals Little Red Riding Hood, A Chinese Honeymoon, The Land of Nod and The Song Birds, It Happened in Nordland, and The Summer Widowers, among others.

Alongside his theatrical career, Burress built an extensive body of work in film. From 1915 to 1939, he appeared in more than seventy motion pictures, making him a recognizable presence in the silent and early sound eras of American cinema.
