About
Whitney Marie Leavitt (née Ellis), born May 12, 1993, in American Fork, Utah, is an American actress, media personality, and Broadway performer. She is known for her appearances on the Hulu reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and the ABC competition series Dancing with the Stars, and made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago in 2026.
Ellis was raised in American Fork in a Mormon household, the daughter of Barry and Stephanie Ellis. She grew up alongside four biological siblings, and her parents also fostered at least a half-dozen additional children. During her school years, she trained as a competitive dancer at a studio that was a rival to the one attended by professional dancer Witney Carson. In 2018, she earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts with an emphasis on dance from Brigham Young University. Following her graduation, she spent two months backpacking across Europe and four months living in Uganda.
While serving a mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Georgia, Ellis became acquainted with the family of Conner Leavitt, a technical analyst. The two officially met in 2015 through a double date arranged as cover for mutual friends, who ultimately did not attend. They married on August 19, 2016, at the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple and have three children together. The family resides in St. George, Utah.
Leavitt began posting content on TikTok in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and became part of a community of Utah-based influencers referred to as MomTok. In December 2021, she drew public criticism after filming herself dancing while her newborn son was hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit with respiratory syncytial virus and pneumonia. In 2024, she appeared as a main cast member on the Hulu reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, where she adopted a villainous persona that led Vulture to identify her as a breakout star of the series.
On June 30, 2025, during the second reunion special of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, host Nick Viall announced that Leavitt had been cast in the thirty-fourth season of Dancing with the Stars. She was paired with professional dancer Mark Ballas and faced significant criticism from viewers on social media throughout the competition. Despite accumulating the highest cumulative points in the season up to that point, Leavitt and Ballas were eliminated during the semifinals on November 18, 2025, finishing in sixth place. Following their elimination, the two appeared on Alex Cooper's podcast Call Her Daddy through the cooperation of ABC, where they discussed their experience and performed their jazz-based freestyle routine to Frank Sinatra's "My Way," a performance that received widespread acclaim.
Shortly after that episode aired, Leavitt announced she would make her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre, with a six-week run scheduled in 2026. Demand for the engagement prompted a two-week extension. During the week of March 8 through March 15, 2026, her performance generated $1,457,930.77 in box office revenue, the highest weekly gross in the production's 29-year history, with her overall run totaling more than $8 million. Leavitt is also set to make her film acting debut in the holiday romantic comedy All For Love, alongside Jesse Kove, on which she will also serve as executive producer.
