About

Wendy Barrie-Wilson, born June 9, 1954, in Loveland, Ohio, is an American stage actress whose career spans more than 100 productions on Broadway and in theaters across the United States and internationally. She comes from a family with deep roots in American theater: her great-aunt and great-uncle, Elizabeth Risdon and Brandon Evans, were both members of the Theatre Guild. Barrie-Wilson's own introduction to performance came at age seven, when she appeared as Sleeping Beauty in a production performed in French.

Her formal training includes a BFA in Theatre/Film from Denison University and an MFA in acting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has taught acting at both institutions, as well as at The ArtSchool in North Carolina and the Denver Center Conservatory. She has additionally led Shakespeare seminars at Northeastern University in Boston and at Baltimore's School for the Performing Arts.

Barrie-Wilson's Broadway career began during her first year in New York, when she appeared in Arthur Miller's All My Sons alongside Richard Kiley. She subsequently returned to that play in multiple productions, eventually performing every female role in the work. Early in her career she also stepped in for Sigourney Weaver, who had fallen ill, as Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, opposite Christopher Walken and Blythe Danner, with a single day's notice before opening night. She held the role until Weaver recovered. In 2002, Barrie-Wilson appeared on Broadway in the drama Our Town, in which she played Mrs. Gibbs.

Among her most celebrated stage roles is Amanda Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. Variety critic Robert Daniels wrote that she was "one of the finest Amanda Wingfields in memory," placing her alongside Helen Hayes, Jessica Tandy, Julie Harris, and Maureen Stapleton in his assessment. Her other notable stage credits include Yelena in Uncle Vanya opposite Hal Holbrook and Robert Foxworth, Lady Croom in Arcadia, May in Fool for Love, Masha in Three Sisters, Andromache in The Greeks, Tourvel in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and Roxane in Cyrano de Bergerac. She has performed the role of Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire on multiple occasions, citing it as one of her two favorite plays alongside Cyrano de Bergerac.

Her regional theater work has taken her to venues including the Actors Theatre of Louisville, Great Lakes Theater Festival, Asolo Repertory Theatre, New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, River Arts Repertory, and the Denver Center Theatre Company. She has collaborated with writers including Arthur Miller, Derek Walcott, J.P. Donleavy, and the Red Clay Ramblers, among others.

Barrie-Wilson's television credits include appearances on Law & Order and its spinoffs, The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, Another World, One Life to Live, All My Children, and Prince Street. On cable television, she appeared on PBS and Showtime in a filmed version of Our Town. Her commercial work includes several years on Japanese television representing General Foods' Blendy Coffee, and she received an Addy Award for her work on Z94's Morning Zoo campaign. She has also worked extensively in voice-over.
