About
Warren Douglas, born Warren Douglas Wandberg on July 29, 1911, in Minneapolis, was an American actor, novelist, lyricist, and screenwriter. He graduated from Minneapolis South High School in 1929 and subsequently attended the Minneapolis College of Music.
Douglas built his early performance career through local theater and summer stock productions before reaching Broadway. His sole Broadway credit came in 1945, when he played the role of Alec Dixon in the comedy Happily Ever After.
From the 1950s onward, Douglas shifted his focus from acting to writing. His output as a novelist included two books, The Man from Wells Fargo and One Came Alone. He also completed 48 teleplays and screenplays over the course of his writing career. In addition to prose and screen work, Douglas contributed to musical theater as a lyricist and book writer, with credits on three musicals: Belle Starr, Go for Your Gun, and The Peaceful Palace.
Douglas died of heart failure on November 15, 1997, at the Kit Carson Rest Home in Jackson, California. He was 86 years old.
