Walter De Leon was an American playwright, screenwriter, and Broadway composer born on May 3, 1884, in Oakland, California. He died on August 1, 1947, in Los Angeles, California.

De Leon began his career as a playwright with his debut at Idora Park in Oakland. He went on to establish a presence on Broadway as both a composer and book writer, contributing to a range of productions that included the musical Lollipop, the revue Dixie to Broadway, the musical Dew Drop Inn, Help Yourself, and the play The K Guy.

Alongside his stage work, De Leon built an extensive career in Hollywood as a screenwriter. Between 1921 and 1953, he received writing credits on 69 released films and appeared as an actor in one production. His screen credits span several decades and genres, including The Ghost Breaker (1922), The Little Giant (1926), The Phantom President (1932), Tillie and Gus (1933), Ruggles of Red Gap (1935), Union Pacific (1939), The Ghost Breakers (1940), Birth of the Blues (1941), Little Giant (1946), The Time of Their Lives (1946), and Scared Stiff (1953), the last of which was released posthumously.
