About

Vivia Ogden (March 21, 1869 – December 22, 1952) was an American actress and producer born in Cleveland, Ohio, whose work encompassed both stage and film across several decades. Her career extended from the late nineteenth century through the 1920s.

Ogden's stage work began as early as 1886, when she appeared in Miss Multon as part of Clara Morris's company, with Morris and Ogden playing the roles of Paul and Jane, respectively. Her Broadway career ran from 1900 to 1919 and included appearances in Five O'Clock, Old Lady 31, Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch, Abigail, and The Countess Chiffon.

Her film career began in 1915 with The Fairy and the Waif. Subsequent screen credits included The Social Secretary (1916), in which she appeared in an uncredited role as a spinster, and The Corner Grocer (1917), where she played an old maid. She reprised the world of Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch on screen in 1919, this time as Miss Tabitha Hazy. Among her more prominent film appearances was D.W. Griffith's Way Down East (1920), in which she played Martha Perkins. Further film roles followed in The Chicken in the Case (1921) as Aunt Sarah, Stardust (1921) as Mrs. Penny, At the Stage Door (1921) as Mrs. Reade, and John Smith (1922) as the Cook. Her later film credits included Timothy's Quest (1922), Idle Tongues (1924), The Denial (1925), A Slave of Fashion (1925), Thank You (1925), The Unguarded Hour (1925), Lovey Mary (1926), and The Fire Brigade (1926).

Ogden died on December 22, 1952, in Los Angeles, California.
