Vivi Flindt

Vivi Flindt, born Vivi Gelker on February 22, 1943, in Copenhagen, Denmark, is a Danish dancer and choreographer whose career has spanned performance, creation, and teaching across several decades.

Flindt received her foundational training at the Royal Danish Ballet School before joining the Royal Danish Ballet as a company member. Her debut came in 1965, when she performed the role of Miss Julie in Birgit Cullberg's production of that name. Two years later, in 1967, she was promoted to the rank of soloist within the company.

That same year, 1967, Flindt began a significant creative partnership with choreographer and dancer Flemming Flindt, whom she married in 1970. She originated roles in a succession of his works over more than a decade, beginning with The Miraculous Mandarin in 1967 and Sacre du printemps in 1968. She continued creating roles in his choreography with Triumph of Death in 1971, Felix Luna in 1973, and Salome in 1978.

In 1977, Flindt appeared on Broadway in Nureyev, bringing her classical background to the New York stage.

Her later career moved into choreography. In 2008, she collaborated with Ballet San Jose on their production of The Toreador, applying the Bournonville method to the work.
