Vincenzo Reschiglian

Vincenzo Reschiglian (21 February 1874 – 17 July 1955) was an Italian operatic baritone born in Venice, where he was the older brother of tenor Giuseppe Reschiglian. He specialized in the comprimario repertoire throughout a career that spanned the major opera houses of Europe and North America.

Reschiglian made his professional debut at age 26, taking the role of Tartaglia in the world premiere of Pietro Mascagni's Le maschere at the Teatro Regio di Torino on 17 January 1901. His early career brought him to the Paris Opera for the 1905–1906 season, after which he crossed the Atlantic to perform with Oscar Hammerstein I's Manhattan Opera Company in New York City during the 1907–1908 season. It was during this period that he appeared on Broadway, receiving credit for Louise in 1908.

In 1909 Reschiglian joined the Metropolitan Opera, where he remained for two decades and accumulated a total of 1,577 performances. During his tenure at the Met he created roles in several world premieres, among them Bello in Giacomo Puccini's La fanciulla del West in 1910, De Brigole in Umberto Giordano's Madame Sans-Gêne in 1915, and Pinellino in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi in 1919. He retired from the stage in 1929 and spent his remaining years in Bergamo, where he died on 17 July 1955.
