About
Vincent Serrano (February 17, 1866 – January 11, 1935) was an American actor whose career spanned stage and silent film. Born to Mary J. Serrano, a translator and wife of a South American government minister, he became a prominent presence on Broadway between 1900 and 1927.
Serrano's most celebrated stage work was his portrayal of Lieutenant Denton in Arizona, a play by Augustus Thomas that opened in New York in September 1900. He performed the role across more than 1,000 performances, making it the defining credit of his theatrical career. His Broadway work also included starring in The Lure, as well as appearances in The Werewolf and The Alarm Clock. He closed his stage career with the role of General Esteban in the 1927 Broadway musical Rio Rita.
Alongside his theater work, Serrano appeared in 13 silent films. His screen credits include Lydia Gilmore (1915), A Modern Monte Cristo (1917), One Law for Both (1917), Eyes of Youth (1919), The Virtuous Model (1919), The Deep Purple (1920), Silk Husbands and Calico Wives (1920), and The Branded Woman (1920). His final film appearance came in Convoy in 1927, the same year he made his last Broadway appearance.
Serrano died on January 11, 1935, and was buried at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York.
