About
Victor Sutherland (February 28, 1889 – August 29, 1968) was an American actor whose career spanned stage, film, and television. He was born in Paducah, Kentucky, and began performing at a young age, appearing in a production of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at age 19 for a run of 25 weeks.
Sutherland's professional work encompassed stock theater, film productions for Fox Film Corporation and other studios, and a Broadway career that extended from 1919 to 1954. His stage credits included Southern Exposure, Man and Superman, State of the Union, Arsenic and Old Lace, and It Pays to Sin, among additional productions over the course of his decades-long career.
His personal life included four marriages. On October 12, 1907, he married silent film star Pearl White in Oklahoma City; she filed for divorce in 1914. The following year, on May 10, 1915, Sutherland married actress Faye Cusick in Baltimore, Maryland, a union that ended when Cusick sued for divorce in 1923. He subsequently married silent film actress Anne Hamilton, with whom he had a daughter, Anne Victoria Sutherland, born in 1925. He also married actress Linda Barrett. Sutherland died on August 29, 1968, at Crenshaw Center Hospital at the age of 79.
