About
Victor Mohica, born Victor Mojica on July 31, 1933, was an American actor of Puerto Rican descent who died on October 17, 2019. Despite his heritage, he frequently took on roles portraying Native Americans throughout his career in film and television.
Mohica's stage work included appearances in the Broadway production of West Side Story in 1968 and Gandhi in 1970. These credits placed him among the working actors of that era who moved between theatrical and screen work.
His television career spanned several decades and included a guest appearance on Dark Shadows in 1969, followed by a featured role in the pilot episode of Ellery Queen in 1975. He appeared in two episodes of Cannon between 1973 and 1974, a featured role in the Bearcats! series in the fall of 1971, and a part in the Little House on the Prairie pilot movie in 1974. In March 1972 he appeared in the Banacek episode Detour to Nowhere as Joe Hawk, and in 1980 he took the role of Joe Tallia in the television movie Stunts Unlimited.
Mohica's film work began with The Boy Who Stole a Million in 1960, in which he played Chico, and continued through Harbor Lights in 1963. His subsequent film roles included Big Eye in Showdown in 1973, the title role in Johnny Firecloud in 1975, and Jaif in the television film Victory at Entebbe in 1976. The year 1980 brought three film appearances: Don't Answer the Phone, in which he played Ventura; The Final Countdown, where he portrayed Black Cloud; and The Ghost Dance, in which he took the role of Tom Eagle. His later credits included Diplomatic Immunity in 1991, Blackbelt in 1992, and Blood In Blood Out in 1993, where he played Mano in what would be his final film role.
