Vane Featherston

Vane Featherston, born Alicia Frederica Vane Featherstonhaugh in London on 16 December 1864, was an English theatre actress whose stage career spanned several decades on both sides of the Atlantic. She performed professionally under the name Vane Featherston, having earlier appeared in smaller roles billed simply as Miss Vane.

Featherston began her career at the Olympic Theatre in London, taking on minor parts in productions at various London venues before her profile grew substantially. In 1884, she joined Charles Hawtrey's company, eventually securing a three-year engagement with the troupe. That same year, on 16 August 1884, her image appeared on the cover of the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News. The breadth of her London work during the following decade is reflected in the volume The London Stage 1890–1899: A Calendar of Productions, Performers, and Personnel, which lists 33 credits attributed to her. Two photographs of Featherston are held in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Her work extended beyond the stage to include the 1914 film The Brass Bottle. Featherston also appeared on Broadway between 1904 and 1922, with credits including The Truth About Blayds, Fedora, The Voice from the Minaret, The Case of Rebellious Susan, and Mrs. Gorringe's Necklace.

Featherston died on 6 November 1948 at her home in Maidenhead.
