Ulla Sallert

Ulla Sallert (27 March 1923 – 11 May 2018) was a Swedish actress and singer born in Stockholm, Sweden. She received her formal vocal training at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, laying the foundation for a career centered on operetta and musical theater.

Sallert made her stage debut in an operetta at Oscarsteatern in 1944, and over the following decade established herself as one of Sweden's leading performers in the operetta and musical genres. Her prominence in that field during the 1950s preceded her transition to international work, which brought her to Broadway in 1964.

Her Broadway appearance came in Ben Franklin in Paris, in which she originated the role of Diane de Vobrillac — a part that had been written specifically for her. The production marked her sole Broadway credit and connected her work in European musical theater to the American stage.

Sallert also maintained a presence in film throughout her career. Her screen appearances span several decades, beginning with Evening at the Djurgarden in 1946 and Don't Give Up and The Key and the Ring, both in 1947. Later film credits include Voyage in the Night in 1955, Hello Baby in 1976, and Nils Karlsson Pyssling in 1990.

In the final years of her performing life, Sallert took on the role of the Duchess in Me and My Girl, a part she performed on multiple occasions during the 2010s. She died on 11 May 2018 at the age of 95.
