Tyrees Allen is an American actor born on July 31, 1954, in Salina, Kansas, who has worked across stage, television, and film. He graduated from Salina Central High School in 1972 and subsequently attended Marymount College in Salina, where he earned a degree in Theater Arts.
Allen's Broadway career spans 2000 to 2003 and includes two productions. He appeared in the 2000 Broadway production of Aida and returned to Broadway in 2003 for a revival of William Shakespeare's Henry IV.
Beyond Broadway, Allen has accumulated more than fifty-five television credits. He held series regular roles on Women's Murder Club and Dark Blue, and made recurring and guest appearances on The Practice, Alias, Cold Case, Without a Trace, Castle, Scandal, CSI: Miami, and Brothers & Sisters.
Allen's stage work has continued in regional theater. In May 2013, he portrayed Troy Maxson in August Wilson's Fences at the African-American Repertory Theater in DeSoto, Texas. In 2018, he starred as Walter "Pops" Washington in SpeakEasy Stage Company's production of Between Riverside and Crazy, a performance that earned him both the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Actor and the IRNE Award for Best Actor. He returned to SpeakEasy Stage Company the following season to play Robin in The Children.
