Tyler Brooke, born Victor Hugo de Bierre on June 6, 1886, in New York, New York, was an American stage and film performer whose career spanned several decades. He died on March 2, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, by carbon monoxide poisoning.
Before entering entertainment, Brooke worked as a bank clerk and as an attorney. He made his stage debut at the Globe Theatre in New York City in 1912, and his Broadway career extended from 1913 to 1920. His stage credits included the musicals Angel Face and Oh, I Say!, as well as the revues Fads and Fancies, Around the Map, and Hitchy-Koo in 1920.
In 1925, Brooke traveled to Los Angeles as part of the touring production of No, No, Nanette, performing in a comedic capacity. That engagement led to his transition into film work. He spent approximately a year and a half working for producer Hal Roach before moving on to other film projects. Over the course of his screen career, Brooke appeared in more than 90 films between 1915 and 1943.
In 1929, Brooke filed a lawsuit against Oliver Hardy, seeking $109,570 in damages. Brooke alleged that Hardy struck him across the arm with a billiard cue, fracturing it and leaving him unable to work for twelve weeks.
