About
Tutta Rolf, born Solveig Jenny Berntzen on 7 October 1907 in Oslo, Norway, was a Norwegian-Swedish actress, singer, and stage performer whose career spanned film and theatre across multiple countries. She died on 26 October 1994.
Rolf built a substantial film career between 1932 and 1939, appearing in 14 productions during that period. Her screen work included titles such as Servant's Entrance, Lucky Devils, and Love and Deficit in 1932, followed by Dear Relatives in 1933 and Fasters millioner in 1934. She appeared in Under False Flag, Dressed to Thrill, and Swedenhielms in 1935, and continued with Adventure in 1936 and Sara Learns Manners in 1937. Her later film credits from that era included The Great Love, Dollar, Variety Is the Spice of Life, and Whalers, the latter two released in 1939. Earlier in her career she had also appeared in the Scandinavian version of Paramount on Parade in 1930, alongside her then-husband Ernst Rolf.
Rolf transitioned to the Broadway stage, making her appearance in 1943 in The Barber Had Two Sons.
Her personal life included three marriages. Her first was to Swedish actor and singer Ernst Rolf, which lasted from 1930 to 1932. She subsequently married American director Jack Donohue in 1936, a union that continued until 1950. Her third marriage was to Swedish director and actor Hasse Ekman, from 1953 to 1972. Rolf was the mother of two children who pursued careers in the entertainment industry: Tom Rolf, a film editor who won an Academy Award, and actress Jill Donohue.
