About
Torin Herbert Erskine Thatcher was a British actor born on 15 January 1905 in Bombay, British India. His father, Torin James Blair Thatcher, served as a police officer, while his mother, Edith Rachel, worked as a voice and piano teacher and was the younger daughter of the Hon. Justice Sir Herbert Batty, a puisne judge of the High Court of Bombay.
Thatcher built a career that encompassed both stage and screen, becoming particularly recognized for his portrayals of villains on film. His Broadway career spanned from 1948 to 1963, during which he appeared in a number of notable productions. His stage credits included Billy Budd, Hidden Stranger, Write Me a Murder, The Miracle Worker, and The Firstborn, among others.
Thatcher died of cancer on 4 March 1981 in Thousand Oaks, California, at the age of 76.
