Born Anthony Pusateri on May 2, 1948, in Herculaneum, Missouri, Tony Stevens built his career assisting and choreographing alongside Peter Gennaro, Gower Champion, and Michael Bennett before serving as assistant to Bob Fosse on Chicago. Together with Michon Peacock, he organized a series of tape sessions with Broadway dancers that ultimately grew into A Chorus Line. His work extended to film and television, collaborating with performers including Bernadette Peters, Dolly Parton, Betty Buckley, Liza Minnelli, Joel Grey, Gene Kelly, and Debbie Reynolds. Film choreography credits include "The Great Gatsby," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," "Where the Boys Are," "Johnny Dangerously," "She's Having a Baby," "Whatever Lola Wants," and "Beyond Words." On television, he choreographed "The Mary Tyler Moore Hour," "The Cheryl Ladd Special: Souvenirs," and "Broadway Plays Washington on Kennedy Center Tonight."
