Tommy Dorfman

Tommy Dorfman is an American actress born on May 13, 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was raised in a Jewish family. She earned a B.A. in theatre arts from Fordham University's drama program in 2015. Her cousin is Andi Dorfman, a former contestant on The Bachelorette.

Dorfman's screen career began shortly after graduating from university, when she was cast as Ryan Shaver in the Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why, which premiered in 2017. That same year, she collaborated with ASOS on a fashion collection and received the Rising Star Award from GLAAD in October. In 2024, she directed and co-wrote the film I Wish You All the Best.

Her stage work includes a 2019 New York theatrical debut in Daddy, a play by Jeremy O. Harris produced by The New Group and directed by Danya Taymor. In 2024, Dorfman made her Broadway debut, appearing in Romeo + Juliet.

Dorfman and Peter Zurkuhlen became engaged in April 2015 and married in Portland, Maine, on November 12, 2016. In July 2021, she disclosed that the two had divorced while remaining friends. In November 2017, Dorfman came out as non-binary. On July 22, 2021, she came out as a transgender woman, noting that she had already been living privately as a woman for nearly a year prior to that announcement. She retained her birth name of Tommy, a choice she has connected both to her own sense of identity and to honoring her mother's brother, who died when Dorfman was one month old. In April 2022, she identified as a lesbian. In May 2024, Dorfman revealed that she had eloped with her girlfriend, Elise Williams, in Malibu, California, around late 2023.
