About
Tom Glynn-Carney is an English actor born on 7 February 1995 in Salford, Greater Manchester. He received his early education at Canon Slade School in Bolton before enrolling at Pendleton Sixth Form College, where he studied Musical Theatre and earned a triple distinction star in performing arts, the highest grade available for a vocational qualification. He subsequently trained in acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, during which time he took part in professional stage productions of Peter Pan and Macbeth.
Glynn-Carney made his television debut in 2013 with a two-episode appearance in the BBC series Casualty. He went on to play Lance Corporal Tony Armstrong in the BBC military drama The Last Post, which launched as part of the network's Autumn 2017 season. His stage career gained early momentum when he originated the role of Shane Corcoran in Jez Butterworth's play The Ferryman, beginning in April 2017 at the Royal Court Theatre. The production transferred to the West End's Gielgud Theatre, where Glynn-Carney remained with the cast until October 2017. His performance earned him the Emerging Talent Award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards.
Glynn-Carney brought the role of Shane Corcoran to Broadway in 2018 when The Ferryman transferred to New York. The production earned him both a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play and a Theatre World Award, both in 2019.
His introduction to international film audiences came through Christopher Nolan's war drama Dunkirk, released in July 2017, in which he played Peter, the son of a small boat captain sailing to rescue British soldiers. In 2018, Screen International named him among its Stars of Tomorrow, a group that also included Naomi Ackie, Jessie Buckley, and Connor Swindells. The following year he appeared in two period films: David Michôd's The King, in which he portrayed Henry "Hotspur" Percy alongside Robert Pattinson, Sean Harris, Timothée Chalamet, and Lily-Rose Depp, and the biographical film Tolkien, in which he played Christopher Wiseman, one of J. R. R. Tolkien's close friends, starring alongside Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins.
In March 2022, Glynn-Carney joined the cast of the HBO fantasy series House of the Dragon, portraying King Aegon II Targaryen, the firstborn son of King Viserys Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, played respectively by Paddy Considine and Olivia Cooke. That same year he appeared in the BBC miniseries SAS: Rogue Heroes. In 2023 he had a role in The Book of Clarence, and in 2024 he starred in the crime drama The Jetty. Outside of acting, Glynn-Carney serves as the lead singer of the indie band Sleep Walking Animals.
