About
Todd Glass is an American stand-up comedian and Broadway performer born on December 16, 1964, in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is Jewish and dyslexic. Glass began performing stand-up comedy in Philadelphia in 1982 while a student at Conestoga High School, and his Broadway work includes a 1986 appearance in Patti LaBelle.
His earliest television exposure came in the late 1980s on A&E's An Evening at the Improv, followed by multiple appearances on Comedy Central stand-up programs in the early 1990s. Glass became widely recognized as a contestant on the second and third seasons of NBC's Last Comic Standing. His television credits span a broad range of programs, including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, The Dennis Miller Show, Politically Incorrect, Louie, Tosh.0, and Mr. Show with Bob and David. He also appeared on Preston and Steve and was the subject of a Comedy Central Presents special in 2001.
Glass released his debut stand-up album, Vintage Todd Glass and Other Crap, in 2001. He was additionally featured on Comedy Death-Ray, a two-disc compilation released on Comedy Central Records in 2007, documenting performances from the Comedy Death-Ray showcase at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. His second album, Thin Pig, followed on July 7, 2009, also on Comedy Central Records, and Todd Glass Talks About Stuff appeared in 2013. His comedy special Todd Glass: Act Happy debuted on Netflix in January 2018. Glass also co-hosted the podcast Comedy And Everything Else alongside comedians Jimmy Dore and Stefané Zamorano before departing in September 2009, with his exit officially announced on the November 28, 2009 episode. In August 2011, he launched The Todd Glass Show on the Nerdist podcasting network, featuring a regular crew that includes comedians Rory Scovel and Blake Wexler, audio engineers Katie Levine and Aristotle Acevedo, and musicians Lynn Shore and Joe MacKenzie. Glass is the voice of the principal in the HBO Max adult animated series Ten Year Old Tom. Simon & Schuster published his book, The Todd Glass Situation: A Bunch of Lies about My Personal Life and a Bunch of True Stories about My 30-Year Career in Stand-Up Comedy, in 2014.
On April 16, 2010, Glass suffered a heart attack and collapsed backstage at the Los Angeles comedy club Largo. Nine days later he appeared on The Bonnie Hunt Show to discuss the experience, disclosing that he had been found to have one hundred percent blockage in his arteries and had subsequently undergone an angioplasty. Glass attributed the health problems to genetics, noting that his father suffered his first heart attack at age thirty and died of a subsequent heart attack at age forty-six. By December 20, 2012, when Glass discussed the incident on the Adam Carolla Show, he reported having lost thirty pounds, having stopped smoking, and having begun taking Lipitor. On January 16, 2012, Glass came out publicly as gay during an episode of WTF with Marc Maron, stating that the recent wave of suicides among LGBT youth motivated him to speak openly, though the information had previously been known to his friends and family.
