Timothy Meyers (August 31, 1945 – March 14, 1989) was an American actor born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is best known for originating the role of Kenickie in the Broadway production of Grease, which earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in 1972.
Meyers began his stage career in 1970, taking on the role of Crookfinger Jake in Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's The Threepenny Opera. His Broadway appearance in Grease marked a significant milestone in his career, and the Tony nomination he received that year recognized his performance in that production. Beyond Broadway, Meyers accumulated an extensive list of stage credits across a wide range of productions and genres. His theatrical work included Oscar in Sidewalkin, Blackbeard in HotGrog, Tim in The Foursome, Shanty in No Place to be Somebody, Wally in Rock Island, Pinky in The Sugar Bowl, Lucien in Romeo and Jeanette, Lusk in Jack the Ripper, Harry Roat in Wait Until Dark, Ernst Ludwig in Cabaret, Henry in The Fantasticks, Bowers in Terra Nova, Geoffrey Thornton in The Dresser, Saul Kimmer in True West, Weston in Curse of the Starving Class, Scanlon in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Sportscaster in Lady of the Diamond, Charles Sturrock in Write Me a Murder, Stingo in She Stoops to Conquer, David McComber in Ah, Wilderness!, Meadows in Loot, Damis in Tartuffe, Mick in The Caretaker, Morty in Steambath, Phil Murray in Comedians, Oswald in King Lear, Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Pompey in Measure for Measure, and Odysseus in The Greeks. In 1980, he also produced a play entitled Little Tips at the Lincoln Center Library.
Meyers appeared in several films, including The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), in which he played a Plumber, Night of the Juggler (1980) as Anderson, and I, the Jury (1982) as Blake, which served as his final film role. He also appeared in the film To Smithereens. On television, he had a credit in the Kojak episode "Kojak's Days (1)." In addition to his performing career, Meyers served as a drama coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
Meyers died on March 14, 1989, from complications of AIDS.
