About
Tim Martin Gleason is an American actor born in Piscataway, New Jersey, whose career has spanned Broadway, regional theatre, film, and television. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Saint Joseph's University in Pennsylvania, where, as in high school, he participated in theatre productions.
Gleason's professional stage work encompasses a wide range of musical theatre roles, including Tony in West Side Story, Tommy in The Who's Tommy, Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cinderella's Prince, the Wolf, and Rapunzel's Prince in Into the Woods, and Henrik in A Little Night Music. Before his extensive association with The Phantom of the Opera, he played Romeo in Terrence Mann's Romeo & Juliet: The Rock Opera at The Goodspeed Opera House and originated the role of Adam Gernstein in The Rhythm Club at the Signature Theatre, a performance that earned him a Helen Hayes Award nomination.
Gleason's Broadway credits run from 1988 to 1992 and include The Phantom of the Opera, the production with which he became most closely identified over the course of his career. He first joined a touring company of Phantom in 2001 as an ensemble member before assuming the role of Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny, which he performed for more than three years on tour. He subsequently joined the Broadway company as Raoul and as an understudy for the Phantom during the period when the show became the longest-running production in Broadway history. The creative team then selected him to originate the role of Raoul for Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular at the Venetian Hotel. Gleason returned to the Broadway cast in September 2007 and continued playing Raoul for an additional year and a half. Across all three American companies, he performed the role of Raoul more than 2,600 times, a record tenure in that part in the United States. He also starred as the Phantom himself in 2005 and again from May 2009 through November 2010.
In 2015, Gleason appeared as Tom Burke in the Amazon series The Kicks. He is a member of Actors' Equity Association.
