About

Timothy Jerome, born December 29, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, is an American actor working across stage, film, and television. He pursued advanced training at Cornell University, Ithaca College, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and the Manhattan School of Music, where he completed a Master of Music degree. His Broadway career spans from 1965 to 2012, encompassing more than a dozen productions.

Jerome's Broadway debut came in 1969, when he originated the role of Dr. Carrasco in Man of La Mancha, a production he also joined on national tour as understudy to the title role of Quixote. His subsequent stage work brought him a wide range of characters, including Amshel Rothschild and Nathan Rothschild in The Rothschilds, Bustopher Jones, Asparagus, and Growltiger in Cats, and the title role of Moony Shapiro in The Moony Shapiro Songbook. Additional Broadway credits include The Magic Show, Arthur Miller's Creation of the World and Other Business, Grand Hotel, in which he played Preysing, Lost in Yonkers as Eddie, Beauty and the Beast as Maurice, and Baz Luhrmann's La Bohème, where he portrayed both Alcindoro and Benoit. He played Professor Porter in Tarzan and appeared in The Lyons Mail as an understudy for Ben Lyons. Among his most prominent Broadway associations is the role of Monsieur Firmin in The Phantom of the Opera.

Jerome received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in 1987, as well as a Drama Desk Award nomination in the same category that year, both recognizing his performance as Herbert Parchester in Me and My Girl. He later reprised a connection to that production at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in Pittsburgh. On the 2007–2008 national tour of My Fair Lady, spanning 26 cities, he played Alfred P. Doolittle, a performance that earned him the Carbonell Award and a nomination for the Helen Hayes Award. In 2008, the New England Theatre Conference presented him with a Special Award for Outstanding Achievement in the American Theatre.

His off-Broadway work includes productions at the Phoenix Theatre, the New York Shakespeare Festival, the York Theatre, the Chelsea Theatre, the Little Shubert Theater, New World Stages, and the Theatre of St. Clement's, with roles ranging from MacHeath in The Beggar's Opera to Cardinal Pointy in The Petrified Prince. Regional credits span Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., Goodspeed Musicals in Chester, Connecticut, the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey, McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey, and North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Massachusetts.

Jerome's film work began with Getting Wasted in 1980 and has included Compromising Positions, Betrayed, Billy Bathgate, Husbands and Wives, I.Q., Everyone Says I Love You, Deconstructing Harry, A Price Above Rubies, Celebrity, Cradle Will Rock, Thirteen Days, Sidewalks of New York, Spider-Man 2, and The Third Testament. His television appearances include roles on Barney Miller, Lou Grant, The Tony Randall Show, Laverne and Shirley, The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, Law and Order, Third Watch, Person of Interest, and the HBO film Wizard of Lies. During the 1970s, he contributed to the production of approximately 40 radio dramas for WBAI-FM.

Beyond performing, Jerome has held significant leadership positions within the theatrical community. He is the Founding President of the National Music Theater Network, the parent organization of the New York Musical Festival, and the Founding President of Mainstreet Musicals, a nonprofit dedicated to developing new musicals. He has served as a board member of the Screen Actors Guild, as former First Vice President of the American Guild of Musical Artists, and as a Councilor of the Actors' Equity Association.
