About

Thomas Holding (25 January 1880 – 4 May 1929) was a British-born stage and film actor whose career spanned both sides of the Atlantic. Born in England in 1880, Holding may have accumulated substantial stage experience in Britain before relocating to the United States.

In America, Holding established himself as a presence in silent films, particularly during the years surrounding World War I. His early screen work included multiple features alongside actress Pauline Frederick, through which he gained recognition among American audiences.

Holding's Broadway career ran from 1926 to 1929 and encompassed three productions: the play Mystery Square, the play Lady Dedlock, and The Jeweled Tree. His death on 4 May 1929 occurred while he was actively performing on Broadway, as he suffered a fatal heart attack in his dressing room. The trade publication Variety reported the circumstances of his death in its 8 May 1929 issue.
