About

Teri Louisa Keane (October 24, 1925 – November 17, 2022) was an American actress whose career spanned Broadway, radio, and television across several decades. Born in Manhattan, she attended the Professional Children's School. Her father worked as a newspaperman and served at one time as an editor of The New York Globe, while her mother had been the leading coloratura at the Hungarian Royal Opera House in Budapest before becoming a professor of music at Wittenberg College.

Keane began acting at the age of nine. By the time she was nineteen, she had accumulated dramatic roles in five Broadway productions and had already established herself as a radio performer, as she recounted in a November 1954 interview for TV-Radio Mirror. Her Broadway credits include the musicals Hairpin Harmony and The Vagabond King, both from 1943, as well as Swing Your Lady and What a Life.

Her radio work was extensive, with reported appearances in more than one hundred dramatic roles across radio and television combined. She was a cast member on programs including Mr. Mercury, Just Plain Bill, and Somerset Maugham Theater, and in the 1970s she was heard on CBS Radio Mystery Theater.

On television, Keane is perhaps best known for portraying Martha Spears Marceau, the wife of police chief Bill Marceau, on the CBS daytime drama The Edge of Night. She held that role for twelve years, from October 1963 to April 4, 1975. Her television work also included appearances on Guiding Light in 1957 and 1988, Search for Tomorrow in 1956 and 1980, As the World Turns from 1961 to 1963, Kitty Foyle in 1958, The Inner Flame in 1955, The Road of Life in 1954, Young Doctor Malone in 1963, All My Children in 1979, and Ryan's Hope in 1985.

On June 10, 1950, Keane married radio and television actor John Larkin in Englewood, New Jersey. The couple had a daughter, Sharon, born March 5, 1951. Keane died on November 17, 2022, at the age of 97.
