About
Ted Thurston (January 9, 1917 – July 23, 1994) was an American actor and singer born in Saint Paul, Minnesota. His Broadway career spanned four decades, from 1940 to 1980, encompassing a wide range of musical and dramatic productions.
Thurston made his Broadway debut in the 1951 musical Flahooley, a short-lived production. His next Broadway engagement proved more successful: the Lerner and Loewe musical Paint Your Wagon. He went on to accumulate an extensive list of Broadway credits, including Kismet, The Girl in Pink Tights, The Happiest Girl in the World, The Most Happy Fella, Li'l Abner, I Had a Ball, Luther, Gantry, Smith, Wild and Wonderful, and Onward Victoria.
Among his most prominent stage work was the role of Edgar Allan Rich in Celebration, a production in which he starred. He also starred in Taking My Turn. Beyond the stage, Thurston reprised his Li'l Abner role in the film adaptation of that musical.
Thurston was married to dancer and choreographer Dania Krupska. He died of stomach cancer on July 23, 1994, in East Hampton, New York.
