About

Taylor Hunt Trensch, born May 3, 1989, in Tampa, Florida, is an American stage and film actor whose Broadway career has spanned from 2012 to 2025. He attended Howard W. Blake High School, where he studied theatre under Eric Davis, James Rayfield, and Jennie Eisenhower, and during his senior year received a college scholarship from the Florida State Thespian Society, graduating in 2007. He subsequently enrolled in Elon University's musical theatre program, where he studied for two years.

During the summer of 2008, while still a student, Trensch joined the acting company at the Lake Dillon Theatre in Silverthorne, Colorado, performing in repertory productions of The Rocky Horror Show, Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, Cabaret, and Rabbit Hole. In 2009, during his second year at Elon, he was cast as Moritz Stiefel in the first national tour of Spring Awakening. The role earned him the Denver Post Ovation Award for Best Supporting Actor in a National Touring Production as well as the Best Individual Performance honor from BroadwayWorld. In early 2011, he appeared as Dwayne Hoover in the world premiere of William Finn and James Lapine's Little Miss Sunshine at the La Jolla Playhouse Mandell Weiss Theatre.

Trensch made his Broadway debut on January 24, 2012, stepping into the role of Boq in Wicked, temporarily replacing Etai Benson. The opportunity arose after he had auditioned for Pasek and Paul's musical Dogfight, which was being directed by Wicked's Joe Mantello. That same year he performed in off-Broadway revivals of Rent, playing Gordon, Waiter, and other roles, and Bare, in which he played Peter, both at New World Stages. He also participated in a developmental workshop for the film adaptation of Into the Woods, reading the role of Jack. On April 11, 2013, he opened the Broadway transfer of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Matilda the Musical as Michael Wormwood, remaining in the role through June 8, 2014.

Trensch next took on the lead role of Christopher Boone in the original Broadway production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, sharing the part with Alex Sharp. The production opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on October 5, 2014, and Trensch continued in the role until September 12, 2015. Between Broadway engagements, he appeared in the world premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's Clarkston at the Dallas Theatre Center in January 2016, and in July of that year played Tyler Clementi in the world premiere of Craig Carnelia and Joe Tracz's Poster Boy at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Trensch joined the Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly! as Barnaby Tucker, with previews beginning March 15, 2017, and the production opening April 20 at the Shubert Theatre. He departed the show on January 14, 2018, alongside Bette Midler, David Hyde Pierce, and Beanie Feldstein. On February 6, 2018, he took over the title role in Dear Evan Hansen at the Music Box Theatre, remaining in the production for approximately a year before being succeeded by Andrew Barth Feldman. That same year he released the singles "Disappear (Acoustic)" and "Obvious," and his work on the Dear Evan Hansen deluxe cast recording was released.

From November 5, 2019, until Broadway's shutdown on March 12, 2020, Trensch appeared opposite Ed Harris in To Kill a Mockingbird as Dill Harris at the Shubert Theatre, marking his third Broadway production at that venue. In April 2023, he stepped into the role of Mordred in the Lincoln Center revival of Camelot, directed by Bartlett Sher with a book by Aaron Sorkin, which opened April 13 at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre and starred Andrew Burnap, Phillipa Soo, and Jordan Donica, closing July 23, 2023. In the fall of 2024, Trensch originated the role of Kenneth Calloway in the musical adaptation of Safety Not Guaranteed, which ran at Brooklyn Academy of Music's Harvey Theatre from September 17 through October 20.

Trensch joined the cast of the Broadway debut of Floyd Collins as Skeets Miller at the Lincoln Center Theater's Vivian Beaumont Theater, with performances beginning March 27, 2025, and the production opening April 21. The role earned him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. His cast recording credits include the original Broadway cast recordings of Matilda the Musical, Hello, Dolly!, Dear Evan Hansen, and Floyd Collins, as well as appearances on Drafts: The Music and Lyrics of Alexander Sage Oyen, Vol. 1, Bare Naked by Lynne Shankel, and ALBUM by Joe Iconis.

On television, Trensch has guest starred on Evil and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and has provided voices for Nickelodeon's Nella the Princess Knight and Netflix's Archibald's Next Big Thing. He has also appeared in the independent films Things Like This and Your Monster.
