About
Tatiana Gabriele Maslany is a Canadian actress born on September 22, 1985, in Regina, Saskatchewan. Maslany has two younger brothers, actor Daniel Maslany and animator Michael Maslany. Her ancestry includes Austrian, German, Polish, Romanian, and Ukrainian heritage. She began dancing at age four and started participating in community theatre and musicals at nine. Maslany attended Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School, where she took part in school productions and improvisation, graduating in 2003. During her high school years, she secured paying acting jobs that took her across Canada for months at a time before she would return to school in Regina. After graduation, she took a gap year before briefly enrolling at the University of Regina, where she studied German, Ancient Greek, Philosophy, Psychology, and Film, leaving after half a semester. She later settled in Toronto, Ontario, at age twenty.
Maslany began her screen career with the Canadian television series 2030 CE in 2002 and appeared as Ghost in the 2004 film Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed. She also performed comedic improvisation for ten years, participated in the Canadian Improv Games, and became a member of the General Fools Improvisational Theatre, earning certification as an improvisation trainer. Her early television work included recurring roles on Heartland from 2008 to 2010 and Being Erica from 2009 to 2011. Her role in Grown Up Movie Star earned her a special jury breakout role award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. In 2012, she won a Phillip Borsos Award for Best Performance at the Whistler Film Festival for her lead role in Picture Day, and won the same award the following year for Cas and Dylan. Her film credits from this period also include Diary of the Dead (2007), Eastern Promises (2007), The Vow (2012), and Woman in Gold (2015), in which she portrayed a younger version of Helen Mirren's character Maria Altmann, speaking primarily in German.
Maslany's most prominent television role came with the BBC America and Space series Orphan Black, which ran from 2013 to 2017. She played Sarah Manning and an extensive cohort of clones, a performance that earned her a Primetime Emmy Award in 2016, making her the first Canadian to win an Emmy in a major dramatic category for acting in a Canadian series. She also received five Canadian Screen Awards between 2014 and 2018 for the role, along with two Critics' Choice Television Awards and one TCA Award. She received Golden Globe and additional Emmy nominations for the same performance. For the 2016 romantic drama The Other Half, Maslany won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Actress.
Her subsequent screen work includes the crime thriller Destroyer (2018), the HBO period drama miniseries Perry Mason (2020), in which she played Sister Alice, and the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022), where she starred as Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk. Her film credits also include Stronger (2017), in which she played Erin Hurley opposite a character based on Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman, and Pink Wall (2019). In 2025, she appeared in the horror film The Monkey and in Keeper, both directed by Osgood Perkins.
Maslany's Broadway career spans 2018 to 2023 and includes two productions. She appeared in Network and Grey House. Beyond Broadway, her theatre background includes extensive work in improvisational performance throughout her earlier career.
Maslany has resided in Los Angeles since 2017 and married actor Brendan Hines in 2022.
