Tamara Podemski

Tamara Podemski is a Canadian actress and writer born on October 16, 1977, in Toronto, Ontario, where she was raised and attended Claude Watson School for the Performing Arts. Her heritage is mixed: her father is an Israeli Jew originally from Kfar Saba whose own parents emigrated from Poland following World War II, and her mother is Anishinaabe, belonging to the Muscowpetung band of First Nations people in Saskatchewan.

Podemski made her Broadway debut in 1996 in Rent. Her screen career has spanned both film and television, with a notable early achievement coming at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, where she received a special jury award for dramatic performance for her work in Four Sheets to the Wind. That performance also earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Female at the 23rd Independent Spirit Awards in 2007.

On television, Podemski is recognized for her supporting role as Alison Trent in the drama series Coroner, a performance that earned her the Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 9th Canadian Screen Awards in 2021. She had previously received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Writing in a Factual Program or Series at the 8th Canadian Screen Awards in 2020 for her contributions to Future History, a documentary series created by her sister. All three Podemski sisters — Tamara, Jennifer, and Sarah — are actors, and all three appear together in the FX series Reservation Dogs.

Podemski is married to British actor Jamie Thomas King, with whom she co-founded Blackbird Productions. The studio's debut release, a short film titled The Light Before the Sun, premiered in 2024. In September 2024, King announced he was writing a screenplay adaptation of James Titcombe's book Joshua's Story: Uncovering the Morecambe Bay NHS Scandal, intended for future release through Blackbird. In 2016, the couple's second child, Benjamin, was born in Bath and died five days after birth; a coroner's investigation determined the cause of death was brain damage resulting from a hospital's delay in performing a caesarean section.
