About
Suzanne Burden is a British actress born in 1958 and a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Her career spans stage, television, film, and radio, with work beginning in the early 1980s.
Burden came to wider attention on television when she portrayed Esther Summerson in the 1985 BBC adaptation of Bleak House. She continued to build her television profile with appearances in two 1989 productions: the Poirot episode "The Third Floor Flat," in which she played Patricia Matthews, and the Campion episode "Police at the Funeral," where she appeared as Joyce Blount. Her subsequent television work included leading roles in You, Me and It (1993), A Mind to Murder (1995), and The Vet, which ran from 1995 to 1996. She also starred in the children's series Microsoap from 1998 to 2000. Later television credits include the role of Rebecca Plunkett in the Midsomer Murders episode "A Talent for Life" (2003), Sarah in Fear, Stress and Anger (2007), and Zukie Richardson in the Midsomer Murders episode "The Great and the Good" (2009). In 2018, she appeared in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, released on Netflix on 28 December of that year.
On Broadway, Burden appeared in Les Liaisons Dangereuses in 1987, a credit for which she received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play. Her stage work has also included productions at prominent British venues. At the Chichester Festival Theatre during the 2006 season, she played Lydia Cruttwell in Terence Rattigan's In Praise of Love, and the following year she took on the roles of Maria in Twelfth Night and Lady Macduff in Macbeth. In 2009, she appeared at the Arcola Theatre in London as Mrs. Alving in Ibsen's Ghosts.
Burden has additionally worked in radio, co-starring alongside Bill Nighy in BBC adaptations of Simon Brett's comedic murder mystery series Charles Paris, in which she plays the title character's semi-detached wife, Frances.
