Flood was raised in New York City and Los Angeles, the daughter of Peter Gosnell Flood, an acting teacher and lifetime member of the Actors Studio. Her father had previously been married to musical theatre actress Betty Buckley from 1972 until 1979, before his marriage to Flood's mother, Virginia. Flood pursued her undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied English, and later earned a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Brown University in 2007.
Her Broadway career spans 2016 to 2025. She made her Broadway debut in 2016 as Dunyasha in The Cherry Orchard, returning to Broadway in 2022 in Birthday Candles, where she played multiple roles. In 2025, Flood took on the lead role of Lizzie in Liberation, a play by Bess Wohl directed by Anne Kauffman. The production originated Off-Broadway, running from January 31 through March 30, 2025, before transferring to Broadway on October 8, 2025, where it ran until February 1, 2026.
Off-Broadway, Flood has built a reputation for originating roles in new work. In 2023, she created the role of Caitlin in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's The Comeuppance, and in 2024 she played Mina in Abe Koogler's Staff Meal.
Her screen credits include the role of Ann, the sister of Amy Schumer's character, on the television series Life & Beth, and Kate Littlejohn on For The People. On film, she appeared as Dorothy in The Chronology of Water, directed by Kristen Stewart.
