About

Susan Peretz (March 2, 1940 – August 27, 2004) was an American actress born in New York City whose career spanned stage, film, and television over several decades. She earned a degree from SUNY Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, before launching her professional acting career through the Actors Studio, an institution where she would later serve on the executive board.

Peretz made her presence felt on Broadway between 1973 and 1977, appearing in Ladies at the Alamo and 42 Seconds from Broadway. Her stage work ran parallel to a growing screen career that began in the early 1970s. She appeared in the 1973 film Hurry Up, or I'll Be 30 and went on to take the role of Angela "Angie" Wortzik in the 1975 film Dog Day Afternoon. Subsequent film credits included Melvin and Howard, in which she played a Chapel Owner, and Clint Eastwood's Honkytonk Man, where she appeared as Miss Maud. Additional film appearances included Swing Shift, Oh, God! You Devil, Poltergeist II: The Other Side, Retribution, Sing, Loose Cannons, and several later productions through the early 2000s.

Her television work was equally extensive. She starred for one season alongside Wendie Jo Sperber and Lesley Boone in the series Babes and made individual appearances on Barney Miller, Married... with Children, ER, Murder, She Wrote, My Wife and Kids, L.A. Law, and Cagney & Lacey, among other programs.

Beyond her performing career, Peretz founded and taught acting at the Third Street Theatre in Los Angeles, a program she ran from 1989 to 2002. She died of breast cancer on August 27, 2004, in Los Angeles.
