About
Suzanne Dolores Luckey was born on April 4, 1938, in Hollywood, California, where her father worked as a sound editor in the film industry. She completed her education at Hollywood Professional School, graduating in 1956. Luckey died on November 29, 2012, at her home in Los Angeles, California, from liver failure at the age of 74. She was survived by her daughter, Shayna.
Luckey's stage career brought her to Broadway between 1954 and 1971, with credits including Peter Pan, Take Me Along, Promise, and The Music Master. Her Broadway work began with the original 1954 production of Peter Pan. She also performed in the national company of The Music Man, playing Zaneeta, the daughter of Mayor Shinn.
Her film work earned her wider recognition. In the 1956 musical film Carousel, Luckey played Louise, the daughter of Billy Bigelow, a role opposite Gordon MacRae. She reprised her stage role as Zaneeta in the 1962 film adaptation of The Music Man, in which Paul Ford portrayed Mayor Shinn. Her final film appearance was in the 1966 production Step Out of Your Mind.
On television, Luckey appeared in The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show and starred in the Telephone Time episode "Castle Dangerous" in 1957. That same year she appeared in the television film version of Annie Get Your Gun.
In 1964, Luckey married actor Larry Douglas, who had previously been married to Onna White, the choreographer of The Music Man. The marriage lasted until Douglas's death in 1996.
