About
Susan Farrell Egan, born February 18, 1970, in Seal Beach, California, is an American actress, singer, and dancer whose career spans Broadway, television, voice acting, and concert performance. She attended Los Alamitos High School alongside the co-located Orange County High School of the Arts before going on to study at UCLA. From an early age she trained extensively in dance, with a focus on ballet, and also pursued figure skating between the ages of five and ten. Her professional career began in local community theaters and civic light operas while she was still a student.
Egan's path to Broadway accelerated when Tommy Tune cast her as Kim MacAfee in a touring production of Bye Bye Birdie, a role she took on while still attending UCLA. Following that tour she joined the cast of the State Fair tour before winning the role of Belle in the original Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast in 1994. That performance earned her both a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical at the 48th Tony Awards and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. She played Belle for one year on Broadway and subsequently reprised the role in the 1995 Los Angeles production, joined by many members of the original Broadway cast.
Her Broadway career continued across more than a decade, with appearances in productions including Cabaret, in which she played Sally Bowles across multiple stints between 1999 and 2003, as well as Triumph of Love, where she portrayed Princess Léonide, and Thoroughly Modern Millie, in which she took over the role of Millie Dillmount. Additional stage credits include The Sound of Music, in which she played Maria von Trapp, and State Fair, where she appeared as a replacement Margy Frake in 1996. Regional credits include South Pacific at Sacramento Music Circus, where she played Nellie Forbush, and The Unsinkable Molly Brown, also at Sacramento Music Circus, in which she played the title role. She appeared in Amy's View at International City Theatre and in Putting It Together at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. A concert production of Chess featured her as Svetlana Sergievsky in 2007. The database credits associated with her Broadway activity span 1991 to 2002 and also include The Triumph of Love and The Sleeping Beauty and the Beast.
Beyond the stage, Egan has built a substantial career as a voice actress. She is widely recognized for voicing Megara in the 1997 Disney animated film Hercules, a role she reprised in two episodes of the 1998 television series of the same name and in the video games Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts III. Her voice work also includes two English-language adaptations of films by Hayao Miyazaki: she voiced Lin in Spirited Away and Madame Gina in Porco Rosso. Additional voice credits include providing the singing voice for Angel, the character voiced by Alyssa Milano, in Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, and voicing Rose Quartz on the Cartoon Network animated series Steven Universe.
On television, Egan had a co-starring role on the WB series Nikki, playing Mary Campbell, the best friend of the title character played by Nikki Cox. Her concert work has taken her to venues across the United States, including the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa and the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach. She has served as the headline act performing with more than sixty symphonies and has appeared at the Hollywood Bowl on five occasions, including June 6, 2016, when she performed alongside Brad Kane as an opening act for Disney's The Little Mermaid Live show. In December 2025 she served as a guest narrator at Disney's Candlelight Processional at Walt Disney World.
Egan also works as a producer through two companies she manages, Broadway Princess Party, LLC and 10th & Main Productions, through which she produces live stage shows including Disney Princess – The Concert and Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Concert, often in partnership with Disney Concerts. Her recorded output includes the albums So Far (2002), Coffee House (2004), All That & More (2005), Winter Tracks (2006), Susan Egan Live! (2007), Secret of Happiness (2011), and Softly (2015). Egan is married to Robert Hartmann, and the couple have two daughters. The family resides in Nashville.
