About
Susan Batson is an American actress, producer, author, and acting coach who has worked on Broadway, in film, and in television. A life member of the Actors Studio, she is one of three sisters born to John Batson and Ruth (Watson) Batson, the latter a noted civil rights activist. Batson received her education at Girls Latin School and Emerson College, and went on to train with Harold Clurman, Uta Hagen, and Herbert Berghof at HB Studio, as well as with Lee Strasberg.
Her Broadway career spans 1968 to 1975 and includes two productions: George M!, in which she appeared in 1968, and The Leaf People in 1975. Beyond performing, Batson also worked as a producer on Broadway, bringing the 2006 production of A Raisin in the Sun to the stage. That production earned both a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Revival of a Play and a Tony Award nomination for Best Revival of a Play, both in 2004.
Batson's work in the theater has been recognized with multiple honors. She won the 1971 Obie Award for her performance in AC/DC, and her work in Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God earned her the Los Angeles Drama Critics Award.
In addition to her performing and producing career, Batson has established herself as a prominent acting coach, working with Academy Award-winning actresses including Nicole Kidman and Juliette Binoche.
