About
Stuart Silver is an actor, director, screenwriter, and television writer originally from Hollywood, California. His career spans Broadway performance, solo stage work, collaborative comedy and performance art, and television.
Silver appeared on Broadway in 1975 in Dance With Me. His stage work extends beyond Broadway to include the solo piece You Look Like Ants, which he created in 2010 and performed at the London Word Festival and the Soho Theatre. The piece is a monologue and musical performance that weaves multiple narratives together non-sequentially, and Silver plays electric ukulele throughout.
Alongside performer and writer Kim Noble, Silver co-founded the performance duo Noble and Silver. Both trained in fine art at Sheffield Hallam University, the pair drew on visual art, stand-up, theatre, spoken word, and performance art in their work. Noble and Silver won the 2000 Perrier Award for Best Newcomer, a prize now known as the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Their subsequent work included a 2001 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show at Pleasance Above, which combined video, recorded sound, and live performance, as well as a month-long residency at London's Beaconsfield art space under the title We're Spending Four Weeks at Beaconsfield, So Let's Hope Everything Goes OK. In spring 2001, the UK digital channel E4 commissioned a six-part series from the duo titled Noble and Silver: Get Off Me!.
Silver has twice collaborated with the contemporary performance duo Lone Twin, co-writing and co-directing Cabaret Simon at the Barbican in London in December 2009. He also produced the in-show video for Lone Twin's production Beastie. His television appearances include Get Off Me, The Mighty Boosh, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, and Man to Man with Dean Learner. Silver additionally serves as lead mentor for musician and spoken word artist collaborations for Phrased & Confused.
