About
Steven Cutts is an American actor, writer, and director whose Broadway career includes the musical Hairspray, in which he appeared from 2002 to 2003. Beyond Broadway, Cutts performed in both the National Touring and Original Canadian productions of the same show, playing the role of Seaweed. His work in that role at the Boston Opera House in 2005 drew notice for his performance in the number "Run and Tell That."
Cutts is also recognized for his work in film, most notably as Shaun in the musical film Camp, which featured actress Anna Kendrick. He additionally appeared in the short film Mother of the Week, which earned selection as an official entry in the 2015 Northeast, Orlando, and Big Apple International Film Festivals.
His stage work extends into writing and directing. Cutts wrote the play Subletters, which went into production in October 2015 and starred actress Courtney Reed. He also directed the world premiere of HAZING U: A Modern Greek Tragedy at the Hudson Guild Theatre as part of the 2020 New York Theatre Festival. In February 2023, that production transferred off-Broadway to the AMT Theater, with Cutts continuing in his role as director.
In April 2015, Cutts performed alongside actor Tituss Burgess at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS fundraising concert Broadway Backwards. In 2023, he joined the creative team of Broadway Bares: Pleasure Park, working with writers Hunter Bell, Troy Britton Johnson, Amanda Green, and Lynn Shankel; the event raised $1,887,014 for Broadway Cares.
Cutts has also pursued a career as an author. In July 2016, he released the e-book My Big Fat Broadway Debut: Volume 1, which appeared on Amazon's Hot New Releases list in the categories of Theatre Acting and Auditioning. He followed that in 2019 with a paperback edition titled My Big Fat Broadway Debut! – The Full Story.
In 2025, Cutts appeared off-Broadway in Exorcistic: The Rock Musical, produced by Lance Bass, performing alongside Darren Criss, Evan Rachel Wood, Lena Hall, and Emma Hunton, among others.
