About
Stephen Pearlman (February 26, 1935 – September 30, 1998) was an American actor whose career spanned theatre, film, and television. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1954 and made his New York stage debut in The Threepenny Opera in 1959.
Pearlman's Broadway career extended from 1963 to 1993 and encompassed a range of productions, including Man of La Mancha, On Your Toes, Six Degrees of Separation, and Any Given Day. Among his most prominent stage roles was Zampano in the 1969 Broadway musical La Strada, one of the leading parts in that production.
Beyond the stage, Pearlman accumulated credits in film and television. His screen work included roles in the action film Die Hard with a Vengeance and the independent film Pi, as well as television appearances on Seinfeld and Law & Order.
Pearlman died on September 30, 1998, in his Manhattan apartment. The cause of death was reported as cancer.
