Stephen Wetmore Mendillo was an American actor born on October 9, 1940, in New Haven, Connecticut. He trained at the Yale School of Drama and built a career spanning stage and screen over several decades. He died on September 3, 2025, at the age of 84.

Mendillo maintained a presence on Broadway from 1974 to 2002, appearing in a range of dramatic productions. His stage credits include Orpheus Descending, Wild Honey, The National Health, Ah, Wilderness!, and A View From the Bridge.

On screen, Mendillo appeared in the 1977 comedy Slap Shot, starring Paul Newman, in which he played hockey player Jim Ahern. He also appeared in Broadcast News, taking the role of the father of the anchor character portrayed by William Hurt.
