Stephen Carlile

Stephen Carlile is a British actor born on 19 April 1978 in Bath, Somerset, England. He trained at the Guildford School of Acting before building a career across Broadway, the West End, and international touring productions.

Carlile is recognized for playing Scar in the Broadway production of The Lion King at the Minskoff Theatre, a credit that also extended to a European tour of the same production. In 2025, he originated the role of Hades in the West End production of Hercules at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

His West End credits include The Go-Between at the Apollo Theatre, where he played Viscount Trimingham, and The Producers at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in which he performed as the lead tenor singing Springtime for Hitler. He also appeared in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre. Additional stage work includes Noël at the National Opera House in Ireland, My Fair Lady as Freddy Eynsford-Hill at the Royal National Theatre, and The Pirates of Penzance as Frederic at the Orange Tree Theatre, where he also appeared in Next Door's Baby as Dickie O'Brien. He played Captain Hook in the US national tour of Peter Pan 360 and took the role of Agustín Magaldi in a European tour of Evita. Further theatre credits include The Wizard of Oz at the New Vic Theatre, Space Family Robinson at The Pleasance, and Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

Beyond the stage, Carlile appeared in the 2008 film Brideshead Revisited and has featured in radio productions including Doctor Who, Songs from Jesus Christ Superstar, and Vanity Fair.
