About

Stella Boniface Weaver (1856 – June 3, 1936) was a stage actress born in Richmond, Virginia, whose Broadway career spanned from 1877 to 1907. The daughter of actor George C. Boniface, she began performing at a young age and became a notable presence in the American theatrical world of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

During the late 1870s and 1880s, Weaver held a prominent position within the company of Lester Wallack, based at 13th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. Her Wallack Theatre credits included False Shame (1877), The School for Scandal (1878), Our Club (1878), and My Son (1878). She also appeared alongside Wallack, John Gibbs Gilbert, and Emily Rigl in an original production of A Child of the State, and later supported Wallack in My Awful Dad. Among her contemporaries in the profession were Sol Smith Russell, John Edward McCullough, John T. Raymond, and Lawrence Barrett.

In 1878, Weaver joined Charles Coghlan, Rose Coghlan, and Gilbert in The Snowball. That same year she appeared in Our Girls, written by H.J. Byron, and acted opposite Maurice Barrymore in a revival of The Shaughraun. At Harrigan's Park Theatre, later renamed the Herald Square Theatre, she performed in Old Lavender with Edward Harrigan. Her additional Broadway credits included a production of Ben Hur staged by Klaw and Erlanger, The Ruling Power, Under Cover, Baby, and a staging of The First Year produced by John Golden.

In her later years, Weaver resided at the Percy Williams Home on Long Island. She died on June 3, 1936, at the Home for Incurables and was given a private funeral. She is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Red Bank, New Jersey, and was survived by a sister, Mrs. Horace McVicker.
