About
Steffi D, born Stephanie Marie Toscano DiDomenicantonio on April 28, 1989, is a Canadian singer and actress. Though born in Longueuil, Quebec, she grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, and attended École secondaire publique De La Salle before leaving to audition for Canadian Idol. After her elimination from the competition, she returned to complete her final year of high school. She later graduated from the George Brown College theatre program.
DiDomenicantonio first gained public attention in 2006 as a fifth-place finalist on the fourth season of Canadian Idol. Her Ottawa audition produced a split decision among the judges, with Sass Jordan and Zack Werner voting against her advancement while Jake Gold and Farley Flex voted in her favor. Throughout the competition, she became recognized for unconventional song selections and a distinctive look that featured a bow in her hair. Among the mentors she worked with during the season was Martina McBride. DiDomenicantonio was eliminated on August 22, 2006. Her work on the show contributed to the cast recording Canadian Idol: Spotlights, released through Sony BMG in 2006.
Her professional stage career began with the first national tour of Spring Awakening, in which she played the role of Ilse. The production brought her to Broadway in 2008, marking her Broadway credit. She subsequently built an extensive stage career across Canada and the United States.
In 2013, DiDomenicantonio received a Dora Award nomination in the Outstanding Musical Theatre Performance by a Female category for her portrayal of Cinderella in Toronto's Young People's Theatre production of Cinderella (a RATical retelling). Beginning in 2018, she joined the Canadian production of Come from Away, portraying Janice Moshers and others. She remained with that production until performances were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, then returned to the show until it closed permanently in December 2021. During the pandemic period, she and stage manager Lisa Humber co-hosted the web series Check in from Away for Mirvish Productions.
In 2022, DiDomenicantonio joined the first national tour of Come from Away, reprising her role of Janice and others, and also performed the role in a special concert staging of the musical in Gander. That same year, she co-hosted the annual CAFTCAD Awards alongside Anand Rajaraman. In 2023, she appeared as Regina Kuntz in a production of Rock of Ages at the Elgin Theatre, which ran from February 23 to May 20. She was subsequently set to reprise her Come from Away role in a Canadian revival production scheduled to play at the Babs Asper Theatre in Ottawa from August 14 to September 1, 2024, before transferring to the Royal Alexandra Theatre for performances beginning September 22, 2024.
