Stanley Wayne Mathis

Stanley Wayne Mathis is an American actor, singer, and dancer whose Broadway career spans from 1990 to 2012. His stage work encompasses a range of musical productions, and he has taken on notable roles in both original casts and revivals.

Mathis joined the original Broadway cast of The Lion King in 1997, playing Banzai in the musical adaptation of the 1994 Disney animated film. He also appeared in Jelly's Last Jam and Oh, Kay! among his earlier Broadway credits. In the 1999 revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, based on Clark Gesner's musical, he portrayed Schroeder. His Broadway work continued with the revival of Kiss Me, Kate, in which he played Paul, and the revival of Wonderful Town.

Mathis appeared in the Broadway musical comedy Nice Work If You Can Get It, which starred Matthew Broderick and Kelli O'Hara. He also performed on Broadway in The Book of Mormon, taking on the role of Mafala Hatimbi, succeeding Michael Potts in the part.

Beyond Broadway, Mathis appeared in a 2009 Yale Repertory Theatre production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, playing the character Stanley. In October and November of 2023, he portrayed Meyer Wolfsheim in the world premiere of The Great Gatsby at Paper Mill Playhouse, a musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel of the same name.
