About

Stanley Price was an American actor born on December 31, 1892, in Atchison, Kansas. He appeared on Broadway in 1929 in the play Adam's Apple, and went on to build an extensive career in film, accumulating credits in over 200 productions between 1922 and 1956. He was a charter member of the Screen Actors Guild. Price died of a heart attack on July 13, 1955, in Garden Grove, California, at the age of 62, and is buried at Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Before establishing himself in film, Price served in the military during World War I and subsequently worked as a stage actor in the Midwest. It was during a touring production of Abie's Irish Rose that he met his wife, Frances Severns. The couple had two children: a son, Stanley Otis, and a daughter, Frances.

Price made his film debut in the 1922 silent picture Your Best Friend, directed by William Nigh and featuring Vera Gordon and Harry Benham. His screen career extended across four decades, from the silent era through sound films and into the age of color. He became a recognizable presence in the cliffhanger serials of the 1930s through the early 1950s, frequently cast as a henchman or second-in-command to a lead villain, appearing in approximately 39 serials in total. He also accumulated around 100 western film credits, taking on roles ranging from cowboys and rustlers to doctors, bankers, reporters, chemists, and prosecutors.

Price demonstrated a capacity for comedy as well, appearing in the film Road to Morocco and in Three Stooges shorts including Punchy Cowpunchers, Dopey Dicks, and Studio Stoops. In addition to his acting work, he held at least 18 dialogue director credits for Lippert Studios. Among his later screen appearances were roles in The Adventures of Kit Carson in 1954, playing Thad Stanton, and Buffalo Bill, Jr. in 1955, in which he portrayed a telegrapher.
