About
Stanley Grover Neinstendt (March 20, 1926 – August 24, 1997) was an American actor whose work spanned theatre, film, and television across several decades. Born in Woodstock, Illinois, he studied at the University of Missouri, where he earned a degree in music.
Grover's Broadway career extended from 1950 to 1993 and encompassed productions including Company, The Desert Song, Madam President, Let It Ride!, and Don't Call Back. He made his Broadway debut in 1951 in Seventeen, taking on the role of Singer with the Orchestra. Don't Call Back in 1975 marked his final stage credit.
Beyond the theatre, Grover built a substantial screen career in both film and television. His film appearances included Network, Being There, North Dallas Forty, The Onion Field, Sisters, Old Gringo, The Falcon and the Snowman, Fandango, and Ghostbusters. On television, he appeared in series such as Dark Shadows, The Patty Duke Show, Barnaby Jones, Hill Street Blues, Hardcastle and McCormick, Murder She Wrote, and he held a recurring role as a somber judge on the legal drama L.A. Law.
Grover died on August 24, 1997, from leukemia at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He was 71 years old. His body was cremated.
