Stanley Fields, born Walter L. Agnew on May 20, 1883, was an American actor whose career spanned stage, vaudeville, and film. He died on April 23, 1941, of a heart attack.
Fields established his Broadway presence between 1908 and 1911, appearing in two productions during that period. His stage credits included the play Fifty Miles from Boston in 1908 and the musical The Red Widow in 1911. Following his work on Broadway, Fields spent eight years performing in vaudeville alongside Frank Fay.
Fields subsequently transitioned to film, making his screen debut as a gunman in the talkie New York Nights. In 1930, he entered into a long-term contract with Paramount Pictures.
